This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to administer and manage information and communications technology (ICT) support in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) using a wide range of general ICT technologies.

Persons working at this level provide a broader rather than specialised ICT support function, applying a wide range of higher level technical skills in ICT areas such as networking, IT support, database development, programming and web development.

What You'll Learn
  • Learn the essentials for network management including how to design, build, and test a network server, manage network security, determine best-fit topology for a local network and identify and resolve network problems
  • Set up and manage network systems and applications including how to debug and monitor applications, review and update disaster recovery and contingency plans, update ICT system operational procedures, review and develop ICT maintenance strategy and install and upgrade operating systems
  • Produce basic client-side script for dynamic web pages, develop complex web page layouts and manage interactive media production.
  • Learn to gather data to identify business requirements, match ICT needs while managing projects, research, and review hardware technology options for organisations
  • Understand key business requirements in for the ICT industry including how to originate and develop concepts, develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability and ensure a safe workplace

Assessment Methods

Students will be assessed through the following general methods of assessment that may apply for each unit. Each of the selected methods must be completed/deemed satisfactory, as each method is only a partial completion.

  • Knowledge questions
    • These are questions that the student is required to answer. Questions may be true/false, multiple choice or of the type where a ‘sequence of order’ list is required, or similar. These are simple questions and may be made available in Moodle as a self-marking quiz or may be comprise of short answer questions.
  • Case Study
    • This Assessment Tool will require written document(s) to be submitted and may take the form of case study with short answer questions, completion of templates, reports or questions requiring research and more in-depth responses than the type of questions that would be included in Knowledge questions. In addition to this, it may include roleplay, and presentation or video demonstration.
  • Practical project/Observation
    • This Assessment Tool requires the student to complete practical tasks and written work related to the practical. During practical task, trainer/assessor completes observation checklist observing skills of students. In addition to this, student may have to complete templates and documentations related to the practical tasks.

Students must meet the following requirements and prerequisite to enter this course. Futhermore, Students must be aged 18 years or above at commencement of course. Please enquire with our Admission Team for more details on the academic and English language requirements.
Academic Entry Requirements

Students must have completed at least an Australian year 11 or equivalent*

*Mature age students, who do not hold a qualification and wish to study with Queensford College, will be assessed based on their work experience.

English Language Requirements

English Language Proficiency

All students must undertake Queensford College’s Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills assessment via online LLN Robot System.

Student must provide evidence of attaining an overall IELTS score of 6 bands or equivalent scores on a similar test (such as PTE etc) to commence a Certificate III Qualification or higher. OR

Student must have attained at least Advanced Level of English and must provide evidence of the same before commencing a Certificate III Qualification or higher.

English Language Requirements Exempted if

The student is enrolled in full-time school studies as a principal course including in a secondary exchange programme, a postgraduate research course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), and Foreign Affairs or Defence sponsored students. OR

The student has completed at least five years’ study in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland. OR

If the student is a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland. OR

If student has in the last two years before applying for the student visa, had completed in Australia and in English Language, either Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at Certificate IV or higher level, while they held a student visa.
