Important Information About Mandatory Work Placement

Work placement is a compulsory component of CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services and is critical for achieving competency in specific units within the qualification. Students cannot receive the qualification until all placement requirements are successfully completed.

Students will undertake work placement in a regulated and appropriate community services organisation within Australia. This may include community centres, case management services, family support agencies, disability services, housing support programs, youth services, or other approved community service settings. For students who are currently employed in the community services sector, your existing workplace may be suitable for placement, provided it meets the required workplace criteria and offers appropriate supervision and scope of practice. Please note that placement organisations must be located within a 20km radius of the College unless otherwise approved.

Placement Duration & Timing

The course requires a minimum of 100 hours of mandatory work placement. Work placement is generally scheduled after students have completed relevant theory and foundational units. This staged approach ensures students enter the workplace with sufficient underpinning knowledge, ethical understanding, and practical preparation to engage safely and effectively with clients and service providers. Placement hours must be completed in full and verified by an approved workplace supervisor.

Placement Support

Queensford College assists in arranging suitable placements, but students are expected to actively participate in the process. Comprehensive support and guidance is provided, including detailed information on placement timing, structure and expectations during course and placement orientation sessions.

Before You Enrol

It is essential that students fully understand the work placement requirements prior to enrolment. Students must be able to obtain relevant pre-placement clearances prior to commencing work placement. These may include (as applicable):

Students must be able to obtain:

  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) relevant to their state or territory
  • A National Police Check (where required by the placement organisation)
  • Any additional clearances or vaccinations required by the host organisation

All associated costs are the responsibility of the student.
