Course Description

This unit equips staff to identify indicators of harm, respond appropriately, and meet mandatory reporting responsibilities when working with children and young people. The program builds confidence in recognising risks, understanding legal obligations, and taking timely, appropriate action to safeguard vulnerable individuals.

Compliance – National Law Section 162A

Queensland’s protocol requires nominated supervisors, persons in day-to-day charge, and family day care coordinators to complete an approved child protection unit. Accepted units include CHCPRT025 (current), CHCPRT001, CHCPRT026, CHCPRT002 (superseded), or CHCECE057. Training must be delivered by an RTO.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

Recognise signs of abuse and neglect (physical, emotional, sexual, domestic/family violence, child-on-child abuse)
Respond appropriately and support children and young people at risk
Apply child protection principles relating to age, gender, disability, culture, and sexuality
Understand legislation, duty of care, ethical responsibilities, and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

Entry Requirements

Recommended (not mandatory):

Existing Worker in Community Services or Health (including parents/unpaid carers of NDIS participants)
Sound literacy and numeracy skills
