Course Description

This specialised first aid program equips your education and care workforce with the skills to respond confidently to emergencies involving infants, children, and students. Staff learn how to recognise and manage asthma and anaphylaxis, respond to common injuries and illnesses, and provide a safe and effective first aid response in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Ideal for early childhood services, schools, and outside school hours/vacation care programs, this unit supports compliance, risk reduction, and safer learning environments.

Compliance – National Law Section 162A

Queensland’s protocol requires nominated supervisors, persons in day-to-day charge, and family day care coordinators to complete an approved child protection unit. Accepted units include CHCPRT025 (current), CHCPRT001, CHCPRT026, CHCPRT002 (superseded), or CHCECE057. Training must be delivered by an RTO.

Learning Outcomes

Staff will learn to:

Provide first aid responses for infants and children in accordance with ARC guidelines
Recognise and respond to asthma, anaphylaxis, and other common childhood emergencies
Conduct primary and secondary assessments and manage unconscious casualties
Apply safe manual handling and incident reporting practices in a care setting
Follow organisational procedures to document incidents and escalate when required

Entry Requirements

No formal academic entry requirements
Suitable for staff who have an interest in learning first aid and can complete online theory components
All participants must complete Queensford’s LLND skills assessment prior to commencement
