CareerBoost

Funding Information

Career Boost is a Queensland Government funded vocational education and training (VET) program, managed by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET). Career Boost helps Queenslanders level-up at work, enabling them to grow their skills in existing or new roles and supporting productivity growth and workplace innovation.

The program delivers training to help individuals develop the higher-level skills needed to secure employment, advance their careers, or progress to further education and training.

Career Boost supports two pathways:

  • A general training pathway — one subsidised training place in a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification.
  • A higher level apprenticeship/traineeship pathway — in a Certificate IV or above qualification.

In addition, under Career Boost, students may access up to 2 subsidised skill sets in priority industries or sectors.

Career Boost replaces funding previously available through the Higher Level Skills and User Choice programs.

As a condition of your enrolment, you will be required to complete a student training and employment survey within three months of finishing or discontinuing your training.

General Training Pathway Eligibility

To access a subsidised training place under Career Boost (general pathway), a student must:

  • Be aged 15 years or older and not a school student
  • Permanently reside in Queensland
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrant), New Zealand citizen, or temporary resident on the pathway to permanent residency with an eligible visa
  • Not already hold a Certificate IV or higher level qualification (or Advanced Diploma) completed in the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count)
  • Not currently be enrolled in another qualification (foundation skills qualifications do not count)

Traineeship Pathway Eligibility

Students accessing Career Boost via a higher level apprenticeship or traineeship must be in an approved training contract. If the student has already accessed 2 apprenticeships/traineeships through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) or Career Start within the last 10 years, they are not eligible to undertake an apprenticeship/traineeship under Career Boost. A student cannot do 2 general training pathway qualifications under Career Boost.

Skill Set Eligibility

Under Career Boost, students may access up to 2 subsidised skill sets in priority industries or sectors. Each skill set has specific workforce eligibility requirements — see individual skill set pages for details.

Important Note

Before starting vocational placement, all students must:

  • Get all required vaccinations/immunisations
  • Complete a police check
  • Complete manual handling training
  • Complete first aid training
  • Students are responsible for all associated costs.

Concessional student status applies when:

  • The student holds a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card and is named on the card
  • The student provides Queensford College with an official form under Commonwealth law confirming that the student, their partner or the person of whom the student is a dependant is entitled to concessions under a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
