This nationally recognised skill set develops core capabilities in communication, empowerment, wellbeing, and safe work practices, enabling staff to confidently support older people while upholding dignity, independence, and cultural considerations.

Designed for organisations seeking meaningful practical uplift without the time commitment of a full qualification, this program improves service quality, reduces risk,and supports compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards—making it ideal for onboarding, upskilling, or addressing team-wide competency gaps.

Completing this skill set provides credit towards qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package.

Compliance – National Law Section 162A

Queensland’s protocol requires nominated supervisors, persons in day-to-day charge, and family day care coordinators to complete an approved child protection unit. Accepted units include CHCPRT025 (current), CHCPRT001, CHCPRT026, CHCPRT002 (superseded), or CHCECE057. Training must be delivered by an RTO.

Units of Competency

Completion requires all units plus 40 hours of workplace performance evidence:

CHCAGE011 Provide support to people living with dementia
CHCAGE013 Work effectively in aged care
CHCCCS038 Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
CHCCCS031 Provide individualised support
CHCPAL003 Deliver care services using a palliative approach

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

Provide person-centred dementia, ageing, and palliative care support
Use effective communication and strengths-based practices
Support engagement in meaningful activities aligned to care plans
Uphold dignity, choice, independence, and human rights
Follow legal, ethical, and organisational requirements
Monitor, document, and report support activities
Recognise and respond to symptoms, pain, and end-of-life needs
Manage emotional responses and ethical considerations

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

Hold a Certificate III (or higher) in Community Services, Health, or a related field OR
Have equivalent skills/knowledge validated through RPL AND
Work in a care or support role
Recommended: sound literacy and numeracy.
